Revitalized, Reenergized, Ready to Ride : Vélogik’s bold leap in active mobility

Since its inception in 2008, Velogik has been at the forefront of the active mobility revolution, spreading the thrill of cycling throughout communities. Today, we’re thrilled to unveil an exhilarating new direction that renews our focus and reignites our passion. Brace yourselves – we’re doubling down on our core strengths: managing and maintaining bicycle service fleets, with a precision focus on empowering local authorities and mobility providers across the vibrant landscapes of France and the UK.  (An example above: the new Leeds City Bike scheme in the UK, operated by Velogik)

In the wake of two booming years for the bicycle sector following the post-Covid surge, 2023 hit the industry with a whirlwind of turbulence. Yet, against this backdrop, Vélogik has chosen to rise above the storm by refocusing on our forte: operating bicycle fleets for both our B2B and B2G markets. It’s a strategic move away from the B2C bicycle service business, aimed at steering towards new horizons.

Driving Asset Uptime for a Micromobility Future

Our renewed commitment to B2B and B2G management and maintenance activities isn’t just a pivot; it’s a promise to drive innovation, foster expansion, and build a thriving micromobility future. While we take care of managing risk and maximizing uptime, together, we’re not just building a future where cycling thrives – we’re inspiring healthier communities and championing modal shift.

Introducing Management & Maintenance As A Service (MMaaS)

But that’s not all. We’re not just stopping at managing and maintaining fleets; we’re internalizing our SaaS products. Forget standalone products – we’re crafting a ‘one-stop shop’ whole-service package. Velogik is at the forefront of this revolution, leveraging 15 years of experience to develop Management & Maintenance as a Service (MMaaS). Our data-driven expertise and actionable plans empower you to make informed decisions, optimize every ride, and achieve your sustainability goals seamlessly.

Continued Expansion Across France and the UK

Despite the bumps in the road, trends in the sector are riding high: cycling is on the ascent, and so are bicycle services. In France, the government’s “Plan Vélo et marche 2023-2027” is injecting €2 billion into developing cycling, infrastructure, and the economic sector. The 1st Public Bicycle Report echoes the potential of bike-sharing schemes for decarbonizing transport systems, with impressive figures on subscribers cycling regularly and reducing car usage.

Across the English Channel, the UK cycling market, despite supply chain challenges and a post-Covid cost of living crisis, is on the path to recovery. Mintel’s research forecasts a 12% climb in new bicycle sales in 2024, with Brits set to buy a staggering 2.1 million bikes. Buoyed by this positive outlook and our laser focus, Velogik is charging ahead with recent contracts in Avignon (France) and Leeds (UK), targeting 100,000 assets under management by 2030 with a Zero Carbon footprint.

A Stellar Management Team to Steer Velogik’s Dreams

To meet these ambitious goals, we’ve welcomed a new Group Chief Executive Officer, Olivier Carton, in November. With a rich background in the financial and operational management of international companies, Olivier served as Chief Operating Officer at Fifteen from 2019 to 2022. He brings a fresh perspective to Velogik’s transformation, streamlining our teams and focusing on expanding our historical business.

In the UK, Nick Brown takes the helm as Chief Executive Officer (UK) and joins the Velogik Group Board. A former finance lawyer turned cycling visionary, Nick founded the UK’s largest independent bicycle service business, havebike, before its acquisition by Halfords in 2022.

With a fantastic first year under his belt, Nick is geared up to overcome challenges, deliver value for stakeholders, and make a positive impact on both social and environmental fronts. Together with the exceptional new team led by Olivier Carton, they’re committed to maintaining Velogik’s leadership in the UK & European micromobility market.
